VACATIONING FAMILIES TRAVEL TO THE HOMESTEAD

Some of the most beautiful and historical resorts in the United States are on the East Coast and offer vacationing families a little bit of history while providing the members of the family with luxurious accommodations. These resorts are among favorites for families who want to enjoy the great outdoors while being spoiled and pampered indoors. Families return for annual vacations and find that the resorts remain seemingly unchanged year after year.

Hot Springs, Virginia has been home to one of the most prestigious resorts in the United States since the resort s humble beginnings in 1766. The Homestead Resort has been fortunate enough to have served some of the greatest Presidents of the United States and has played host to many princesses and princes as well as highly acclaimed authors and actors. Some of the past guests of the Homestead Resort include: Ronald Reagan, William (Bill) Clinton, Lyndon B. Johnson, James Madison and Thomas Jefferson. The list could go on with recognizable figures but then you wouldn t know much about this stately resort.

Vacationing families have been visiting The Homestead Resort since soon after its opening in 1766 and while the structures have been vastly improved with modern conveniences, it is one resort where so many would agree that though things change, everything stays the same. The resort is full of heritage and history and seemingly engulfs all of the families who visit. The affluent guests of The Homestead became accustomed to the all-inclusive packages of the resort in its glory days and things haven t changed much since then. Rates begin at $165 per person per night and include breakfast and dinner, afternoon tea along with movies daily and beautifully appointed guest accommodations.

The resort offers some of the best-rounded activities indoors and outdoors. Families vacationing at The Homestead seldom grow tired of the three golf courses, tennis courts, paintball facilities, and all of the lawn games (such as croquet) typical of an extravagant resort of days gone by. The staff will even set up your lawn games for you.

Families on vacation at The Homestead still find they can rub shoulders with highly successful people in a resort still coveted by the affluent families which are very much keen on the idea of the higher rates which The Homestead charges. Still, though the money flows freely at The Homestead, it has a very Palm Beach aloofness to it. Families such as the Vanderbilt heirs have been coming to The Homestead for years. It is an old money resort and new money isn t easily accepted into a resort where many of the families vacationing there have known one another for centuries.

    Cherie

    Release Date: 10/27/2006

ROSIE O’DONNELL NAMED GODMOTHER OF NORWEGIAN PEARL

NCL to host gala fundraising event aboard its newest ship to benefit Rosie’s For All Kids Foundation

Today, NCL announced Emmy?® Award winner Rosie O’Donnell will serve as the godmother of its newest ship Norwegian Pearl. The popular talk show host and actress will christen NCL’s newest Freestyle Cruising vessel in a ceremony at the Port of Miami on Saturday, December 16 at 5 p.m.

NCL has also donated the use of Norwegian Pearl to O’Donnell’s charity, Rosie’s For All Kids Foundation, for a one-night charity event on Friday, December 15. Guests onboard the one-night cruise will enjoy an evening of culinary delights, a Broadway-style show in the Stardust Theater with O’Donnell and guest entertainers direct from Broadway performing, a comedy show by popular comedy troupe Second City and a sail-away cocktail party on the pool deck.

“We are so pleased that Rosie will serve as Godmother of Norwegian Pearl,” said Colin Veitch, NCL Corporation’s President and CEO. “Rosie is a talented entertainer and dedicated philanthropist, and both these qualities will be front and center during the christening and charity event of Norwegian Pearl. We will raise a lot of money for her charitable foundation, which will allow her to expand on the broad range of work already undertaken to improve the quality of life for children all over America.”

NCL will donate the use of Norwegian Pearl, inclusive of all food, beverage and shipboard entertainment for the one-night event with 100 percent of the ticket revenue being given to the charity.

“After chartering four ships with NCL, I have experienced the innovative product and exemplarily service of the crew first hand so I’m very proud to serve as Godmother of the company’s newest ship — Norwegian Pearl,” O’Donnell said. “I’m also thrilled we will be using Norwegian Pearl for a cause that is very close to my heart - helping disadvantaged children. It is the perfect venue to raise money for children in need around the country.”

Rosie’s For All Kids Foundation is a public, not-for-profit organization dedicated to helping America’s kids by supporting non-profit programs that serve disadvantaged children. Since 1997, Rosie’s For All Kids Foundation has awarded more than $15 million in Early Childhood Care and Education program grants to over 1,100 nonprofit organizations that have helped provide important opportunities for thousands of America’s kids in need.

Tickets to the gala fundraiser go on sale Monday, October 30, 2006 with prices starting at $250 per person for an inside cabin and up to $3,000 per person for a Courtyard Villa. In addition, NCL will offer businesses the opportunity to purchase special packages that include a reception with O’Donnell and VIP gift bags. Package number one at $10,000 includes one penthouse, two mini-suites and four balconies and package number two at $5,000 includes two mini-suites and two balconies. For reservations, call NCL at 800-327-7030.

NCL and O’Donnell have been working together since 2004 when R Family Vacations chartered Norwegian Dawn for the industry’s first ever gay family cruise. Since then, R Family Vacations, founded by Kelli O’Donnell and Gregg Kaminsky, have seen the popularity of these cruises grow and have chartered four ships from NCL including Norwegian Jewel for a Caribbean cruise in February 2007.

    Norwegian Pearl - Simply Striking

The 93,500-ton Norwegian Pearl, which will be delivered to NCL on November 28, is the ninth new ship in six years for NCL and continues the company’s plan to completely renew its fleet and by 2010, will feature the youngest fleet in the industry. Norwegian Pearl is the latest edition of the line’s innovative Jewel-class ships boasting an industry first - a four-lane ten-pin bowling alley; and two NCL firsts — a rock-climbing wall and two top-of-the-ship Deluxe Owner’s Suites on deck 15.

Just like her sisters - Norwegian Star, Norwegian Dawn, Norwegian Jewel and Pride of Hawai`i — Norwegian Pearl will accommodate 2,400 guests, and features all the elements of NCL’s dynamic modern Freestyle Cruising fleet including multiple restaurants, lively public rooms, versatile, family-friendly accommodations and NCL’s sizzling new style of accommodations - Courtyard Villas - which along with each ship’s two Garden Villas make up the biggest, most luxurious and innovative suite complexes at sea.

After a series of inaugural events in Europe and Miami, the ship will sail two seven-day itineraries to the Caribbean (Eastern and Western) beginning Dec. 22, 2006. On January 5, 2007, Norwegian Pearl features its innovative five and nine-day Western and Southern Caribbean schedule. Ports of call on the five-day Western Caribbean itinerary include stops in Cozumel, Mexico and Belize City, Belize. The nine-day Southern Caribbean route includes calls in Roseau, Dominica; Bridgetown, Barbados; Castries, St. Lucia; St. John’s, Antigua and Tortola, British Virgin Islands.

NCL Corp. Ltd. (”NCL”) is an innovative cruise company headquartered in Miami, Florida, with a fleet of 15 ships in service and under construction. The corporation oversees the operations of Norwegian Cruise Line, NCL America, and Orient Lines. The company is currently building two ships, Norwegian Pearl for delivery in November of 2006 and Norwegian Gem for delivery in October of 2007.

In addition, NCL plans to build up to three new third generation Freestyle Cruising ships for delivery between 2009 and 2011. NCL is on target to have the youngest fleet in the industry by 2010, providing guests the opportunity to enjoy the flexibility of Freestyle Cruising on the newest, most contemporary ships at sea.

Mississippi Queen Gets Go Ahead to Sail

Delta Queen Steamboat Co.’s Mississippi Queen, which cut its last cruise two days short after about 100 passengers and crew experienced gastrointestinal symptoms, was given the official go ahead to board passengers in St. Louis on Wednesday and expected to depart as scheduled. The riverboat had evacuated passengers on Monday in Cape Girardeau, Mo., so it could undergo a thorough cleaning and sanitizing. The company was proceeding with Wednesday’s cruise based on a joint decision between the company and various health organizations, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A company spokeswoman said CDC and local health officials were at the boarding area in St. Louis to advise guests of the illness on the previous cruise and how to remain healthy onboard. The vessel has hand sanitizer stations in various locations. Delta Queen was purchased earlier this year by Ambassadors International and is being consolidated with other river vessels under the new Majestic America Line brand. U.K. Probe Finds Star Princess Fire Caused by Cigarette

The March 23 fire on Princess Cruises’ Star Princess near Jamaica was “probably caused” by a discarded cigarette on a stateroom balcony on Deck 10, according to an investigation report released Monday by the U.K.’s Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB). The report said the cigarette likely smoldered for 20 minutes before flames developed and spread to adjacent balconies and to Decks 11 and 12. Fire spread into staterooms as heat shattered the glass balcony doors, but was contained by fire-smothering systems indoors. The fire was extinguished 1.5 hours after it started; 79 staterooms were condemned and another 218 were damaged by fire, smoke or water. One passenger, a 72-year-old American, died from the fire and 13 passengers and four crew members were treated for smoke inhalation, according to the MAIB report. The International Council of Cruise Lines issued a report on April 13 urging its members to take immediate action, including replacing combustible balcony partitions. On Oct. 1, ICCL confirmed that 14 member lines, including Princess, implemented the recommended actions. The MAIB said Carnival Corp. expects to complete the work on all 26,800 balconies on its 81 ships by December. In view of the responses to the safety recommendations, no further recommendations have been made, the MAIB said in the report. For more information, visit www.maib.gov.uk.

Judge dismisses suit against cruise line by family of missing man

Judge dismisses suit against cruise line by family of missing man

(AP) - GREENWICH, Connecticut-A Miami judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed against Royal Caribbean by the family of a man who disappeared from a Mediterranean honeymoon cruise.

George A. Smith IV disappeared July 5, 2005 from the Brilliance of the Seas somewhere between Greece and Turkey - a case that became one of the most publicized incidents of a missing passenger aboard a cruise ship. While his body has not been recovered, bloodstains were found on an awning underneath the newlywed’s cabin balcony and the FBI is investigating.

Judge Jon I. Gordon granted a motion Monday to dismiss the lawsuit faulting Royal Caribbean International its handling of the case.

“It’s a setback, of course, but it’s not the end,” maritime lawyer Brett Rivkind told Greenwich Time Thursday. “The Smith family isn’t discouraged. Whether the Smith family won or lost, the issue is going to be decided in an appellate court.”

    Royal Caribbean welcomed the dismissal.

“For some time, we have said that a fair, accurate and objective review of the facts would clearly demonstrate that the lawsuit was completely baseless,” the cruise line said in a statement, adding that while it would not be surprised by an appeal, “we are confident that the outcome will be the same.”

“We continue to extend our sympathies to the Smith family for the tragic loss of their son.”

Smith’s disappearance sparked congressional hearings on maritime security and a federal bill requiring cruise lines to report cases of missing passengers and crimes to the Department of Homeland Security.

Smith’s parents and sister believe the 26-year-old Greenwich man was murdered, and allege in their lawsuit filed in June that the cruise company tried to cover up the incident to avoid liability and negative publicity.

Royal Caribbean representatives have said the cruise line exceeded its legal requirements when it contacted the FBI and other authorities immediately after learning about Smith’s disappearance.
